A stranger has appeared at the gates of the camp asking for water, claiming to be on our side, but we are yet to know for sure.

In a mad daze, some of the soldiers wander off into the woods, not sure what is real and what they dreamt, and what the enemy has placed in their minds in order to defeat them.

Flesh melted by magicians.

UPDATE

The injured soldier is tended to and starts to speak about what he saw. The enemy have enrolled the most sinister of magicians as leaders of the troops. These magicians are stationed on a hillside overlooking the battle, and have been performing the most hideous of acts upon our men. Tearing them to pieces with a flash of the hand. Boiling their blood. Actually turning them inside out. 

UPDATE

The lieutenant awoke in the night to a black enemy figure slowly rising through the mattress next to him as through a swamp. He screamed and the figure sank back into the surface. The lieutenant was found later wild eyed and has not been able to sleep since. This really happened. This really happened. This really happened.

FIRST DIVISION #722

First soldier has found his way back already. Will not speak about what he saw.

The night is spent conducting the traditional rituals and bathing and marking the first soldiers to be sent. The symbols drawn on them are secret, and only known to the soldier, and the scientists who apply them. At dawn there is a final prayer and the men leave. We are now waiting for messengers to bring news.

Thunder clouds are gathering overhead. The sky is black as ink. Soldiers are alarmed to see birds flying from the trees through the night, and animals leaving the woods surrounding the camp.

'All of this', the General says, sweeping his thin arm across the camp and the land, 'will be evaporated. You cannot stop this.'

The General draws THE SYMBOL in the dust and each soldier looks down, feeding from the very shape of it, until they all are ready and fearless.

News that our forces have been abandoned by foreign allies spreads through the camp causing unease. The night is clear and warm. Food has been brought in, but much of it is rancid from the heat, and many troops are too nervous to think of eating.

A mutilated facial portion of a soldier was delivered from the enemy as a warning. We have not as yet located the rest of the victim.

There are enemy troops already at the gates of the encampment, much earlier than expected. Supplies had not been brought in in time. Soldiers nervous.

The first troops are gathering, prompted by an allies change of loyalty yesterday. There was also bloodshed during an experiment on creating sparks.
This first soldier is a leader of the masked division.
They cannot be seen in usual circumstances, but can see everything within a 7 mile radius.
